Hard Rock International and a group of investors have made a $300 million deal to acquire and renovate the Taj Mahal casino property. The Taj Mahal will be rebranded as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
According to published reports, once the project gains traction, the local economy hopes to gain as many 2,000 jobs.
The Taj Mahal encompasses 17 acres with 167,000 square feet of casino floor space and 2,010 hotel rooms. The Chairman Tower, the latest addition to the property, opened in 2008. The Taj Mahal is located across the Boardwalk from the Steel Pier and next door to the Showboat Hotel that was acquired by Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein in 2015. Hard Rock currently operates the Hard Rock Café connected to the Taj Mahal and located off the Boardwalk. Taj Mahal ceased operations in October 2016, but the Hard Rock Café continues to operate.
